On my D the focus points show no problem. I have Capture NX-2 and still use it for jpeg’s but have, shamefully, been shooting Canon. Its easy to set up the camera to show focus points. Simply go to the Playback menu, to Playback Display Options and select Focus Point.

Keep in mind that Nikon software is the only software that can read all of the in camera data from a Nikon camera. Just checked my View NX2. It does not show focus points for my D shots even though the “show focus point” option on the drop down menu is checked. It will show focus points for my Ds shots. It’s the zhow for the Ds shots.
